Proposals Due-Monday July 8, 2024

Chagrin Falls, OH – March 4, 2024 – Horses and Humans Research Foundation (HHRF), a 501(c)3 organization, announces an open call for proposals for research projects focusing on horse and human interaction. We invite submissions from researchers across disciplines who are interested in exploring the multifaceted relationship between horses and humans, with a particular emphasis on interventions such as riding, groundwork, leadership programs, therapy, and any other relevant activities. This open call is also asking for horse research along with the human.  This open call will award up to $150,000 for this grant cycle. Deadline for submission of proposals is Monday, July 8, 2024

Horses & Humans Research Foundation is dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge about the human-horse bond, we are committed to supporting research that contributes to the understanding of the benefits, challenges, and mechanisms underlying interactions between horses and humans. We welcome proposals that address a wide range of topics related to horse and human interaction. 

This call for proposals is open meaning the subject can be any professional field, any type of participant and any type of equine involved in a mutual interaction. We encourage interdisciplinary collaborations and welcome proposals from researchers.

HHRF endorses the concept of One Health defined by the CDC as “…the goal of achieving optimal health outcomes recognizing the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.” With this in mind, the grant applications should include rigorous research proposals measuring the impact of the horse and human interaction.

All proposals undergo a multi-tier review process completed by the Scientific Advisory Council.  Finalists will be requested to participate in a twenty- minute presentation/ Q&A  with the board of directors.  Preference will be given to investigators with solid credentials and research experience. The maximum award is $150,000 for up to two years. The winning proposal will have scientific merit, scientific and clinical significance, and relevance.

 On behalf of the HHRF Board, our past board members, supporters, and our Scientific Advisory Council, we are pleased to offer this opportunity. Through this call, which reflects the need to address the gaps in knowledge in horse and human interaction, HHRF strives to support true leaps in research. Through peer reviewed research we all benefit from knowledge, application, and dissemination.
